Kareena Kapoor voted as Sexiest Asian Woman

She has always been in the spotlight be it for her size zero phase or for her films, Kareena Kapoor has got it all, fame, fortune and a brilliant fashion sense. Well, it's no wonder then that this leggy damsel was recently voted as the sexiest Asian Woman.

According to a poll carried out by Eastern Eye, through social networking sites like twitter, Kareena took the top position, edging out last year's winner Katrina Kaif.

This year, Katrina ranks second, post holding the number one slot for the past three years. Others on the list include Priyanka Chopra at third place, Bipasha Basu at fourth followed by Freida Pinto at fifth and Deepika Padukone at seventh. While new entrants like Jacqueline Fernandez ranked at twelfth, Hrithik Roshan's wife Sussanne at number sixteenth, Nargis Fakhri at twenty three and Sonakshi Sinha at thirty eight.

The latest Bollywood mom Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came in at sixth and Sonam Kapoor ninth while Lara Dutta stood at number fifteenth and Malaika Arora Khan at nineteenth.

DESI BOYZ on avarage starts on the box office...

Desi Boyz showed no growth on Saturday as all India collections were the same as Friday with 8 crore nett. This takes the two day figure to around 16 crore nett.

The trending of the film is not great as opening was below par at mass centres and Saturday showed no growth at mass centres. The film is doing decent business at multiplexes. Sunday should be around between 9-9.50 crore nett and the weekend is likely to be around 25-25.50 crore nett which is not a very encouraging total. This is all due to the adult catagorey and the mixed reviews from the critics and also from the people.

A 28-29 crore nett weekend from 8 crore nett Friday would have meant a good Monday as weekend had good growth but with normal weekend growth, it will be tough to come up with a good Monday.

Bollywood's king amazed by ongoing adulation

His name may not mean much in the West but Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan is quite possibly the most popular movie star in the world.
With Bollywood cinema reaching an estimated three billion people his following far exceeds that of Hollywood's stars. But after nearly 30 years in the business - and more than 70 films under his belt - 46-year-old Khan remains unexpectedly shy and still can't quite fathom why legions of fans commonly refer to him as the King of Bollywood.

"I get amazed they call me that - and I think maybe deep down inside my heart I don't deserve all of this," he says. "I feel very grateful and very odd. I don't even know why people like me so much."
He explains how his confident exterior masks a withdrawn personality. "I'm a very shy person. As I'm getting older, I'm becoming more and more reclusive," he says.
Given his proclaimed shyness he says acting has been a source of solace. "I actually act just to cover up my awkwardness, so I become some other person and do all the strange things. It's nearly schizophrenic, and I can just go and do something and not feel responsible, not feel shy, not feel odd, not feel awkward."
Khan is known for his wide range of films. Some of his pictures have become modern popular classics where he often plays the romantic lead.
"You know, it's so strange that I've done so many love stories, and all my co-actresses and all my friends and ladies, they say, 'Oh, you're so romantic.' I've never in my life been able to go and say hello to a girl at a party. The first person I said it to was my wife and I married her quickly."
He says he's thrilled by acting but doesn't want to review his work once shooting is complete. "I can't even see my films. I think out of the 70 films I've not seen more than three, I can't watch my films. I get embarrassed."
With other Indian actors gaining popularity in recent times Khan's stature has taken a little bit of a beating - but for his followers he has an almost magical ability to keep them enthralled.
Top Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra believes his popularity is partly explained by his humility. "There's a relatability to him," she says. "He's humble, and at the same time, he has the qualities that every mother would want in her child or every wife would want in her husband and every kid would want in her dad. He has all of those in him, so that makes him more than just this movie star who sings you incredible songs. It makes him a brand or a commodity which everyone relates to, and hence why he has become more than just a movie star.
Superhero role
The actor enthusiastically engages with his fans wherever he goes - but he's also very involved with colleagues in the movie business working hard to push the Indian film industry forwards.
His latest starring role was in Ra.One, released in October, a film which he also produced. It's been described as India's most expensive film. It's a state-of-the-art superhero picture which, its promoters claim, boasts more special effects than director James Cameron's Avatar.
Khan believes the Indian film industry has to bring up its production standards if it is to survive - especially at a time when Hollywood is beginning to make inroads into the Indian market.
"Youngsters are exposed to international cinema. They are wanting quality. They are wanting styling. They are wanting designing. They are wanting storytelling, which is international now, and if we don't cater to that, I think five, seven years later, young kids, the ones who are 15, 16 will stop watching Indian films."
Many critics were impressed by the special effects in Ra.One but there were some gripes about the weakness of the storytelling.
Khan, while not pointing to any particular deficits in Ra.One, concedes Indian screenwriting needs to change - especially with overseas markets in mind.
"I think our screenplay technique needs to improve a lot more. We make musicals. That format needs to change. We can still have the music, but maybe not so obtrusively.
"If you want to sell a film overseas internationally, it will have to be initially written by screenplay writers from the West, because they understand." But he believes Indian content should definitely be retained.
One of Khan's big ambitions is to make a film that will cross over and satisfy audiences in both the West and India. "I'll keep tirelessly working towards that... I don't want to sell the poverty and the snake charmers of India. I want to sell the educated middle class of India. I want to tell them there's a lot of intelligence here, intellect here, rich here, happiness here, colourful culture here, and with due respect, we are not just some country, a Third World country. I don't want to sell the sadness of this country. I want to sell the happiness of the country."
Although many of the films that in which Khan has appeared are escapist he remains committed to real life issues.
'Secular' industry
Last year the actor, who was born into a Muslim family, starred in the film My Name Is Khan which dealt with Muslim profiling in post-9/11 America. "I thought I should be one of the few people, at least in India, to tell people that being Muslim is not necessarily being a terrorist or bad guy. The world should not be divided like this."
But the actor maintains that despite living in a country where Muslims are in the minority he's never experienced any discrimination in the film business. "I think the Indian film industry is the most secular place to find a job in. I don't even know if anybody knows anybody else's religion while we're working together. I've never been disadvantaged as far as being a Muslim is concerned in this industry."
Despite his sometimes humble and insecure assessment of himself Khan doesn't come across as an unfulfilled man.
"I feel very happy that I'm allowed by God to come and be someone else. That's all I need to do, and I just keep doing it every morning I get up. My family keeps asking, 'How do you do this?' I said, 'I just love it. I'm just very happy doing acting.'"

Will Kya Super Kool Hai Hum go all the way on adult humour?

Ritesh Deshmukh
Makers of Kya Super Kool Hai Hum are in a fix. Though the film is a sequel to sex comedy Kya Kool Hai Hum which was a big success when released way back in 2005, the makers are still trying to figure out how far they want to go when it comes to raising the bar. While they have tried to keep it all under check instead of being overzealous in their approach, many around them have advised to go all the way given the fact that audience is much more receptive to naughty content in films today.

"It is yet undecided that how would the sex comedy quotient stand in the film", informs a source, "Kya Kool Hai Hum is known for it's adult content and it was mainly due to the freshness it brought in it's naughty treatment that made it such a big hit back then. Sachin Yardi has written the first in the series and now writing as well as directing the sequel. There are ton loads of angles that he can explore in this Tusshar Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh starrer. However, he has tried to play a little safe by curbing his instincts and now make it an out and out sex comedy affair that many are expecting it to be."

This stems from the fact that even though the film was a huge hit back then, there were a few who criticised the content for being unsuitable for the family audience. Though youth patronised the film in a big way, the stakes are higher for the sequel as the makers want to broaden the target audience. However quite a few around them are advising that this shouldn't come at the cost of the film's core USP which is centred on it being a sex comedy.

"As of now such brand of comedy has been kept at just the same level as Kya Kool Hai Hum - nothing more nothing less. However, times have changed and those who have read the script feel that it won't harm if more naughty content is adding to the narrative. The makers are considering this possibility as well. The shooting has just begun and it won't really be a challenge to add a few more jokes here or there", adds a unit member.

The makers have also closely studied the likes of Delhi Belly to see audience's receptiveness towards adult humour. The Imran Khan starrer stands tallest when it comes to humour belonging to this genre finding such a huge mainstream release and turning out to be a huge success. With Kya Kool Hai Hum being a pioneer in this genre as good as six years ago, it has to be seen if the sequel would end up beating the film in its own game.

Shahrukh Khan dumps Katrina Kaif for Kareena Kapoor

Bollywood's Baadshah Shahrukh Khan finally shows his loyalty towards Ra.One's on-screen wife Kareena Kapoor after she was chosen over Katrina Kaif for Rohit Shetty's next untitled film that will have Shahrukh in the lead.

Rohit has been working on the script for quite a few days now. Initially, he wanted to remake the 1982 comedy Angoor with SRK. But the Ra.One star thought it would be better to do a romantic film first. The film will go on the floor by early next year and the highlight will be its music, which will be composed by the one and only AR Rahman.

According to few early reports, both Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were on a race to bag Bollywood's hot property that's Shahrukh. But finally, Kareena Kapoor won the Khan race by defeating competitor Katrina Kaif.

Will Kareena sizzle with Saif in AGENT VINOD?

With RA.ONE nearing the end of its run, Kareena Kapoor is now moving on to her next release AGENT VINOD. While audience as well as critics review did mention that she was one of the brighter spots of the film, especially due to the way she sizzled in 'Chammak Challo', even Kareena would agree that when it came to on-screen chemistry between her and Shahrukh, there wasn't much to offer due to the film's genre.

Now that AGENT VINOD is about to hit the screens, one can well expect the film to be really special for her, courtesy her real life partner producing and acting in it. So can one say that it would be their chemistry that would facilitate in igniting the screen in a big way?

Says Kareena, "See, Saif was my real life partner even during the days of KURBAAN but the film didn't do very well. It ultimately depends upon how a director wants to present his actors. With AGENT VINOD though I can promise that (director) Sriram Raghavan has gone all out to ensure that my pairing with Saif indeed stands out since the script requires that."

One does tend to believe this while also considering the fact that BODYGUARD was a love story in the disguise of an action drama whereas RA.ONE had everything but a love story embedded into the screenplay.

In that context, while one wonders how much scope for romantic rendezvous a spy thriller like AGENT VINOD carries, Kareena says, "AGENT VINOD has to be seen for what it is instead of being conscious of the fact that it features me along with Saif."

While she seems to be quite poised about the future prospects of AGENT VINOD, how is Saif looking forward to the film's release? After all ever since KURBAAN, his only other film has been AARAKSHAN where he merely enjoyed an extended guest appearance of sorts.

"Frankly, Saif's whole life currently revolves around AGENT VINOD. He is super excited about the film and has worked on it with all the passion. You would see that for yourself," smiles Kareena before signing off.

Shiney Ahuja is back on the big screen after a hiatus

Puja Jatinder Bedi may be a new entrant in the field of direction -- her directorial debut GHOST is slated for release shortly -- but she has years of experience behind the camera, having been an integral part of many a prestigious film in the past. With GHOST, her first independent outing, Puja realizes her dream of turning director. "I wanted to make a movie some day and here I am, with GHOST," Puja states.

The film, starring Shiney Ahuja and Sayali Bhagat, was shot in a start-to-finish spell in Lavasa, near Pune. "I wish to state this on record. You're going to be scared, very scared when you watch this one. We have watched horror movies in the past, but GHOST isn't like anything you've watched on the Hindi screen before," she says. What raises eyebrows is the casting of Shiney Ahuja in the main lead. "He's a fine actor. Plus, he suits the part well. I convinced him to do my film purely on the basis of the story. He agreed instantly," Puja reveals.

GHOST, produced by Bharat Shah, is already attracting attention after the theatrical trailer was launched sometime back.

'Force 2' on back burner?

FORCE is a success and like it happens with every film that works, there's talk that a sequel is being planned, with John Abraham's character taking the story forward. However, a news-report in a section of the media points out to the fact that John is unhappy with the way Fox Star promoted the film, which explains why John isn't keen on being part of the sequel.

John, on his part, dismisses the rumor. "We haven't cracked the story idea yet, so the talk that I am not too keen on the sequel is hogwash. Yes, I feel, the film could've been better promoted... Nishikant Kamat [director] is currently in the U.S. and only once he returns to India, Vipul Shah [producer], Nishi and I will take a joint call on the project," he clarifies.

Meanwhile, John is the latest celebrity to have set his sights on film production. But he's not acting in his first venture. "That's because there's no role for me. But, yes, I will be a hands-on producer," he says.

Trouble over 'Junglee Jawaani' sequence in Rockstar

RockstarImtiaz Ali's film Rockstar has just released last week and while the film has opened to a mixed response, the filmmaker and the production house Shree Ashtavinayak find themselves embroiled in a new controversy.

The reason for this is the 'Junglee Jawaani' sequence in the film when Ranbir and Nargis watch a C-grade film in a seedy theatre 'Amar Talkies'. It may not seem like a big deal but Ashika Suryavanshi (the actress who stars in the C-grade film) was shocked when she saw herself on screen in a film that was described as semi-porn in Rockstar. Ashika is so taken aback that she has since decided to file a complaint against the makers of Rockstar for tarnishing her reputation.

Ashika is even furious with the makers of the film Jungle Love, which she acted in, for giving away the rights to the makers ofRockstar without her consent

The small time actress has decided to file a complaint with CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes Association) against Imtiaz Ali, Ashtavinayak and the producer of Jungle Love, Suresh Jain.

Katrina all set to take on Kareena's challenge!

The tussle to the queen's throne continues unabated with top Bollywood heroines,Kareena  and Katrina, fighting it out tooth and nail. There is no doubt that Kareena has a definite edge over Katrina when we compare the two in terms of humongous 100 crore grossers.
Kareena with 3 IDIOTS, GOLMAAL 3, BODYGUARD and RA.ONE is leading the race with as many as four 100 crore plus netters and even though Katrina has been pretty successful but all her hit films have failed to touch the 100 crore mark. Her last two releases, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN and ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, won her a lot of critical acclaim as well as commercial success and ZNMD came closest to touching the 100 crore mark but failed by about 8 crores!
However it appears that Katrina is all set to break into the 100 crore league as she has three potential blockbusters that she can rely on to cross the landmark.
The first is of course, Yash Raj's Salman Khan starrer, EK THA TIGER, which is still in the shooting stage and looking at the way the box-office has responded to Sallu's charms one can easily predict a 125 crore plus for Katrina. Next is the most anticipated DHOOM 3 which will surely touch and go beyond the 175 crore mark. Last but not the least is the Yash Chopra project opposite King of romance, Shah Rukh Khan, which also has the potential of becoming another 100 crore plus blockbuster.

Well, it appears that Katrina is all armed and geared up to take up the 100 crore challenge and emerge at the top once again!

SRK to flag off IFFI 2011 in Goa

The actor has been making news for a while now,
whether it be RA.One or his birthday.
Post film release, the Shah Rukh Khan finally
seems less stressed as he prays with
family and greets the many fans who
came to wish him
Actor Shah Rukh Khan will flag off the 42nd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, a senior official said on Monday.

IFFI Director Shankar Mohan said the actor would formally inaugurate the ten-day extravaganza on November 23 at Ravindra Bhavan auditorium in Margao, 40 kms away from Panji.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni will be the Guest of Honour for the inaugural function, Mohan said, adding the guest for the concluding ceremony is yet to be finalised.

Curtains on the IFFI 2011 will go up this year with screening of the Portuguese film The Consul of Bordeaux.

The film was selected as it goes well with the theme of the festival 'the whole world is one family', Mohan said.

The 90-minute film, directed by Manuel Gonzales, was selected owing to its unique plot after the preview committee sifted through 500 films to pick up the best.

The Consul of Bordeaux is based on the life of Portuguese consul general Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux, France, who helped thousands of Jewish refugees to extricate themselves from France, after Hitler's armed forces invaded Belgium and the Netherlands in May 1940.

According to Mohan, more than 8,000 delegates from across the globe are participating in the event.

The festival which was earlier held under the aegis of the Directorate of Film Festival (DFF) has now been de-linked from it, with setting up of a special purpose vehicle - IFFI Directorate--under the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry, which functions as an independent entity.

Salman Khan in rival Shahrukh's shoes?

It seems that the Bollywood Khans' battle have reached its height. Possibly Salman Khan is following the footsteps of his rival Shahrukh Khan after the latter decided to gift expensive BMW cars to hisRa.One collegues as a gesture of thanks.

NDTV reports revealed that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif decided to gift gold coins to the crew members of their upcoming film Ek Tha Tiger. But interestingly, it was Sallu's ex-beau Katrina Kaif, who first came up with the idea to do something special for the staffs and crew, as reports suggests.

The source adds, "When Salman found out about Katrina's generous gesture, he also got inspired and decided to gift them gold coins. Everyone in the unit from the direction and the production team and the spot boys got two gold coins each."

So, it was a surprising and expensive gift indeed by Salman just like SRK. But unfortunately, Salman and Katrina were unavailable for comments.

RA.One - The new face of Indian cinema

Till now Bollywood movies overseas are more known for their song & dance sequences & heroes running around trees or atop mountains to woo their girls, but RA.One seems on track to add a new dimension to the world renowned Indian cinema. A sci-fi super hero flick, Random Access One or RA.One has finally arrived to our shores on October 26th, 2011. Starring the Badshaah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, this is the most expensive Bollywood flick till date with an estimated cost of 150 crores (US Dollars ($30.42 million).

It was a memorable experience watching King Khan's much awaited film of the year RA.ONE here in New Zealand. Awesome special effects were the highlight of the film for me. SRK & director Anubhav have tried to elevate the level of Indian cinema vis-a-vis Hollywood. It may be recalled that previous attempts by Indian filmmakers at superhero movies, like Hrithik's Krish & Abhi's-Drona proved futile & were much below the international standards. RA.One is a superhero movie with a different spin. Herein the gaming characters come out of their virtual world into the realms of the real world. Shahrukh plays a dual role, as a game developer & G1, a super hero look alike.

The initial hour of the movie was average, but kudos to SRK for trying something different. His South Indian avatar Shekhar with his permed hair & "ayyayo" was not too bad. Actually he is the head of a gaming department in "Barron Industries" where he is asked to produce a new game for the Indian market. Kareena plays Shekhar's wife, Sonia. RA.One (Arjun Rampal) impresses as a villain, his bald & deadly look & his late entry into the film after intermission were the highlights. G.One (SRK) is the good guy in the game. While SRK belives that villains are bad elements, so the good should win, but his son Prateik thinks that the villains are cool dudes. To win over his son , for whom he is always a source of embarrassment, Shekhar designs the villain in such a way that he is near invincible.

Game is set to three levels. And the death will occur only at LEVEL 3. Both G-One & RA-one have H.A.R.T's , that gives them the power to play. Without the HART they cannot die in the game as well. It's fascinating to watch how the villain Ra.One steps out from the gaming world into the real world & destroys it's creator Shekhar. Then he sets out to find Lucifer(Prateek) who had challenged him in the game. In his search for Lucifer, he kills Akashi who was Shekhar's colleague in designing the game. Then Ra.One assumes the form of Akashi to destroy Lucifer. Prateek who is a gaming whiz kid tries to convince his mom, Kareena that his dad did not die in an accident, but was killed by Ra.One. He brings G.one( SRK) from the game into their life, to fight the menace of RA.one . Armaan Verma as Prateek (Shekhar's son) a.k.a Lucifer impresses in his debut performance as a child artiste. Kareena looks gorgeous as always.

The music by Vishal-Shekhar was average apart from Chhamak Chhallo & "Criminal". I particularly enjoyed "Chhamak Challo" by AKON, sung beautifully & picturized in a nice manner. Akon's awesome vocals coupled with flawless Hindi is surely going to be a big hit with the audience. Shahrukh disappointed with his South Indian pronounciation. All in all Ra.One impresses as a superhero movie, but the initial part of the movie lacked the punch of a SRK flick.

Screenplay & dialogues could have been made better. Kids would love SRK's leaps over the buildings, jumping over the cars & his attempt to stop an out of control train with his hands, SRK has tried to blend all the elements, Bollywood masala, Hollywood style action sequences, international musicians like Akon, to cater to not only Indian masses but also to the non resident Indians based overseas & the foreigners . The presence of the legendary Rajnikant, gorgeous Priyanka & dashing Sunju Baba in guest roles adds to the appeal of the film. It comes as no surprise that RA.one has already recoverd it's cost just in one week of it's screening globally, having collected more than 170 crores(US $34.52 mil) in the first week. One hopes that Shahrukh's attempt to raise the level of Indian cinema to match Hollywood on a technological front does succeed. The day is not far when our Indian movies are at par with Hollywood movies or even better.

Rockstar Has Very Good Weekend

Rockstar had a very good first weekend as it collected around 33.75 crore nett. The film showed a 8-10% jump on Saturday and a similar jump on Sunday. The growth in not big but still the film managed to grow on each day.

The growth on Sunday came from mass centres as single screens and multiplexes in these areas showed a jump. The high end multiplexes could not go much further as they were at optimum or near optimum levels on Saturday. The best business for Rockstar has come in places like Mumbai city, Pune, Delhi city and Bangalore.

The opening weekend is similar to Ranbir Kapoor's Raajneeti released last year and that film went on to cross the 90 crore nett mark. Although that scenario can't be totally ruled out for Rockstar it will be tough as Raajneeti had more universal acceptance.

It will all depend on Monday and a 6.50 crore nett plus Monday will give it a chance for 90 crore nett.

Quirky characters make great sequels

MUMBAI: Quirky characters, lovable scoundrels and real movements (read anti-corruption) are what cinegoers want to see most in Bollywood sequels. A recently released survey by Ormax Media and Research Company showed that the top 10 sequels that audiences want to see are Munnabhai, Dabanng, Golmaal, Dhoom and Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai.

Filmmaker Raju Hirani, who will start work on his next Munnabhai instalment, feels viewers want sequels only if they fall in love with the main characters. He said, ''Munna, Circuit or Chulbul Pandey are quirky characters who people can watch again and again. It's like reading newer editions of an Asterix or Tintin. You want to know what they will do next.''

A dozen sequels are in the pipeline, including Don 2 (ready for release), Dabanng 2, Golmaal, Dhoom 3, Rock On, Houseful 2, Jannat and Murder.
srk look in DON2

Says Ormax Media CEO Shailesh Kapoor, ''The industry is in a phase when sequels are being made by the dozen. This research puts some perspective to this trend.''The survey showed that House Full, for example, may have one of the biggest grossers of 2010 but viweres were not too keen on its sequel. ''But Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai shows fantastic results, with its franchise equity almost at par with the Dhoom franchise," said Kapoor. Dhoom and Don stand at number 4 and 6. Trade pundits feel Don's appeal lies in its multiplex appeal, thanks mainly to actor Shah Rukh Khan's image. Analysts feel the interest in Dhoom 3 will surface when it becomes known that the film also stars Aamir Khan.

Said filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who has made sequels to Jannat and Murder, ''The reason film people invest in sequels these days is because they believe that like in other businesses with a franchise, the chances of success increase exponentially. Ask anyone "Should I open a fast food joint or a McDonald's?" The answer will be McDonald's.'' Social commentator Shiv Vishvanathan said, films draw from evergreen themes but those that stand out offer something extra. On the mass appeal of Munnabhai and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, he said, ''Dawood is the gangster everyone wants to catch, the evil that everyone of us wants to recognize,'' he said. ''On the other hand, Gandhi is a practical saint who haunts our lives, the metaphor that affects everything from morals to food to the body. So these are the polar opposites of our life, the wanted list of extremities,'' he added. Activist Tushar Gandhi, a descendent of the Mahatma, is not surprised that people want sequels of Munnabhai, Dabangg and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai.

''The first Munnabhai movie debunked the system at the hands of a lovable scoundrel, a character who endeared himself to all. This is what has drawn people to Anna Hazare, who is seen as a frail old man taking on the big bad wolf system. The second Munnabhai film took on the problems that affect the commom man and showed them a unique way to triumph over these,'' he said. Dabanng, he felt, ''appealed to the anarchist within us who wish to destroy all that we consider evil but don't have the guts to go about destroying like Salman. In a situation like the Amboli tragedy at, I am sure people would stand by and applaud Salman's character.''

Film writer Dilip Thakur said, ''Sequels shouldn't be made just because the first part worked. They should be made only if there's scope.''
